The Big, Bizzare Race

Well, well, well what a crazy 54th Daytona 500, starting on a Monday after getting rained out on Sunday, Nascar was forced to postpone the race to Monday.  The race was really good, but it was also bizzare. That will be explained later.

Well the race started basically with a yellow flag, as a big wreck occured on lap 2, when Jimmie Johnson's #48 Lowes Chevy got turned by Elliott Sadlers #33 Chevy. The result, several cars spinning into turn 1. Making her first Daytona 500 appearance, Danica Patricks #10 GoDaddy.com Chevy spun in between two cars. You can see the crash if you missed the Great American Race below.

Then the race continued on with Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx Toyota leading the most laps. But then the race would take a dramatic, bizzare turn.

As you will see in the video (link above) Juan Pablo Montoya's #42 Target Chevy was going into turn 3 at a high rate of speed (the race was under caution) and his car all of a sudden lost its steering and Juan lost control of his car. As he spun, he hit of the jet dryers trying to dry the track from a rain shower, realeasing gallons of jet fuel onto the track. Then, the truck turned into a big flame as you see in the picture above. The truck driver was helped down the track to the ambulance, where he ended up being taken to the hospital.

The race would be red flagged for several hous before restarting. As the picture above describes, track workers used boxes of Tide to wash the track.

The race had an awesome finish that would result in the 2009 Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth winning in his Best Buy #17 Ford. Matt became the first driver to win two since Jeff Gordon in 2005.
