The Auto Club 400
Its time to recap last sundays race, The Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. This track is 2 miles long and it is really wide. Cars can actually go 5-wide at times in the corners. The nationwide race on Saturday had a fierce duel for the win, ending up with Joey Logano in his #18 Toyota taking the checkered flag. That win marked Joe Gibbs racings 8th consectutive win at the track. Kyle Busch scored most of those wins. Denny Hamlin won the pole.
The race started, but everyone was concerned about the chance of rain. The sun had been out, but as the race went on, the clouds got dark. The race ran green all the way to the caution at lap 129 for rain. During this green flag stretch, Tony Stewart pulled some moves that Denny Hamlin nor Kevin Harvick were very appreciative of. Stewart drove the car hard into turn 3 and slid up in front of Harvick and Hamlin, thinking they would let him in. When Stewart did this to Harvick, he put his hand out the window to, thank Harvick? Apparntly that wasnt the case. To show his displeasure, Harvick pushed Stewart all the way down the front stretch.
With 71 laps to go, the rain finally hit. Denny Hamlin was the leader, but made a commitment to coming down pit road. That would be a mistake as Hamlin would lose the race and several spots. Tony Stewart stayed out and ended up winning the race after it being called because of rain. The top 5 finishers were 1. Tony Stewart #14, 2. Kyle Busch #18, 3. Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88 4. Kevin Harvick #29, 5. Carl Edwards #99. The winner from Bristol Brad Kesolowski finished in the middle of the field due to pit road penelties.
