Bristol Night Race Recap

Welcome back to Captain Josh's Pit Stop. Tonight I recap the action from Bristol. The Trucks, Xfinity, and Monster Cup Series all raced at Bristol this weekend. Well the Truck Series raced on Wednesday night, with Kyle Busch taking the victory. Busch also won the Xfinity race on Friday night. Formula One is still in their summer break, and will be back actually next weekend for the race at Spa in Belgium. I may of said in the last blog that it was this past weekend but I was wrong. My apologies. Now onto the Cup race. Photo courtesy of Google images.

The Bass Pro Shops NRA 500 ran on Saturday night with rookie Erik Jones earning his first career pole in the Cup Series, with Kyle Larson alongside. Stage 1 and 2 consisted of 125 laps, with the final stage making up the final 250 laps. The race was a total of 500 laps around the half mile concrete track. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Brad Keselowski had a rough race and the bad luck started early in the race. Keselowski cut a tire on lap 5 in stage 1 after making contact with Ty Dillon. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Another driver who had a bad night was Aric Almirola. He would have trouble in stage 1 as he hit the wall in turn 2 with 59 to go in the stage. Almirola also had trouble later in the race in the final stage at lap 326 where he cut a tire. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Kyle Busch continued his success through the weekend as he held off Kyle Larson and Erik Jones to win stage 1 after a great finish to the stage. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr had his day cut short when he also hit the wall off turn 2 in stage 2 with 49 to go in the stage. I apologize for not having a photo. I couldn't find one as I use Google images to get my photos.

The night continued on, and it also wasn't good for JTG Daugherty Racing, as both of drivers made contact in stage 2 with 29 to go. AJ Allmendinger made contact with teammate Chris Buescher, which resulted in Allmendinger cutting a tire and forcing him to pit. There was no caution for the incident. The action heated up in the final stage, as Austin Dillon spun in turn 3 and collected Jeffrey Earnhardt. Both crashed and were out of the race. Kasey Kahne also suffered damage trying to slow down and he got into the back of Joey Gase in the #23 car. Kahne continued on however. Photos courtesy of Google images.

Matt Kenseth took home stage 2 after staying out under the previous caution to gain track position to win the stage. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Also in the final stage, Kurt Busch hit the wall in turn 4 as well. The incident occurred in the final stage at lap 276. I apologize that the photo isn't accurate. I was unable to find a photo of Busch hitting the wall, so I found one of his car for the weekend. This photo is courtesy of Google images.

Chase Elliott also had an end to his night in the final stage as he made contact with Kevin Harvick off turn 2 and spun into the inside wall. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Another driver who had an end to his night in a big way was Landon Cassil. Cassil spun off turn 2 and hit the inside wall so hard that he bounced back into the outside wall into turn 3. Cassil was uninjured in the crash. The incident occurred in the final stage with 84 to go. Photo courtesy of Google images.

And the winner of the Cup race was none other than Kyle Busch. Busch once again swept all three races in the same weekend. He also did this in the summer of 2010 as well. But it wasn't easy, as Busch had to hold off a hard charging Erik Jones. Well that's it for tonight. The Cup Series is off this coming weekend, but the Xfinity Series will be at Road America and I believe the Truck Series will be in Canada for their race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. So tune in for an exclusive recap of the Xfinity race since I always recap the Cup race in detail with photos. Photos courtesy of Google images.
