Michigan Recap

Hello and good evening everyone and welcome back to Captain Josh's Pit Stop. Tonight I recap the weekends action from Michigan. The Xfinity Series raced at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday with hometown driver Sam Hornish Jr picking up the win in the Penske #22 Ford. Darrell Wallace Jr won the Camping World Truck Series race at Michigan, but it was announced today that the win was encumbered after his truck failed post race inspection. Formula One is still in their summer break, but will be back this weekend in Belgium. Onto the Monster Energy Cup race. Photo courtesy of Google images.

The Pure Michigan 400 ran on Sunday afternoon with hometown hero Brad Keselowski winning the pole with teammate Joey Logano alongside. The first and second stages consisted of 60 laps, with the final stage making up the final 80 laps. The race was 200 laps, 400 miles. Photo courtesy of Google images.

Not much happened in the first stage. Brad Keselowski took home the stage win after leading the whole stage. Photo courtesy of Google images.

The day ended early for Derrike Cope late in stage 2. Cope had an engine failure off turn 2 with 4 to go in the stage. Photo courtesy of Google images.

The action heated up once again in the final stage with Kasey Kahne and Daniel Suarez colliding off turn 2 after Kahne thought he had cleared Suarez while trying to pass him. I was unable to see the lap it occurred on, but it occurred in the middle of the final stage. Photos courtesy of Google images.

There seemed to be a lot of incidents off turn 2. Michael McDowell spun off that corner after contact from Paul Menard sent the #95 car spinning. Menard also suffered damage, but not much to hinder his race. Photo courtesy of Google images.

The race would go into overtime after the Menard/McDowell incident. Martin Truex Jr had the lead but lost it on the restart to Kyle Larson, who went on to win his 3rd straight win at Michigan. One thing I want to mention, as a change to the overtime line was made. It was moved to the start finish line instead of in the middle of the backstretch. There had been some controversy surrounding the overtime line. Just wanted to point that out. And that's all for tonight folks. Next week, NASCAR heads to the short track at Bristol. Gonna be a much better race in my opinion. I will see ya then. Goodnight everyone. Photos courtesy of Google images.
